“From the outset, the Government of Canada has committed to a fair damages agreement that recognizes the real mental and emotional stress and financial impact of the Phoenix pay system on public servants. As a result of this agreement, which was signed today with Canada`s largest public service union, we are now able to compensate almost all employees affected by Phoenix`s compensation system. You do your best every day in your workplace and for your family. We entered these negotiations in order to reach a central agreement that recognizes and supports it – and we have achieved results. Unlike the preliminary agreement for the Board of Directors` negotiations, which is to be put to the vote of PSAC members in the near future, Phoenix`s damages agreement had to be ratified by the PSAC`s National Board of Directors. The Board of Directors voted unanimously on the offer on July 3, 2020. Additional benefits, assessed on a case-by-case basis, are made available to those who have missed opportunities to earn interest in savings accounts or other financial and financial investments, who have experienced delays in receiving benefits or pensions, or who have experienced serious personal or financial hardship due to Phoenix`s compensation issues. The agreement also provides for the reimbursement of sick leave for employees and former employees who have taken such leave for Phoenix.
